 A question of launches
« Thread Started on Apr 18, 2004, 9:11pm »

I have a heck of a question, and I hope someone here can tell me why it will not work... or better yet that it will.

The DSM guys commonly bounce off the rev limiter, and dump their clutch when they launch... I have been told that for us, we want to hold the RPM at about 4300 and dump.

Is there any reason this wouldn't work?....

Once you get to the track, adjust the throttle cable to crack the throttle body open at idle so that the idle is at 4300 RPM... then all you have to do is dump and floor, you don't have to try the whole bounce thing. then when you leave the track, you can adjust the throttle cable back to normal...

what do you all think?

this would also put you at 4300 rpms while u are in the staging lanes, and also at about 1/2 throttle when u start the car. Not to mention that while u are at a constant 4300 rpms, you will NOT build ANY boost. The whole point of revving, i.e. 'bouncing' rpms is to build boost. When you have a constant rpm whether it be at 500rpm or 7000 rpm you won't have any boost. So it wouldn't make for a 'good launch'.

i dont think that idea would work very well....it'll make moving around the return lane and staging lanes a bitch being that your rpm's cant drop below 4300

I personally rev bounce......rev bounce between 3500-4500....its all timing...watch the light..i time it so that by the time the bottom light lights up (on the x-mas tree)
i let off the clutch at the same time my revs are on the up swing.....at this point the clutch starts to bite but not engagin yet...sinc ethis is putting a bit of a load on the motor you'll build like 2-3 psi off the line ...you should not have moved off the line yet.....well once the clutch starts biting....feed it more throttle and pull your clutch foot back as quickly as you can but not a dump.......this should take alot of shock fromt the trans and x-fer case and put it on the clutch (you'll even take more off if you rolled through the water so your tires can break free a bit off the line..this will keep you from boggin)

once you feed in more throttle and have the clutch fully engage you should sling shot out of the hole.

I pulled a few 1.6's this way and countless 1.7's

I always just stuck in it in first bounced the revs up to 6k and dumped and about 10 out of 10 times the car felt like i was going to fly away. ;D :D

If you want real fast 60 foot times, sell your 3S and buy a much lighter car. At 4000+ pounds, you are not going to fast 60 footers without doing a crap load of wear and tear on your driveline.

But, if you’re insistent on beating the living crap out of your car, Ro has a pretty good technique.
