Go to wheels of america. It is right by transwheel and they are really good people. they did a great job on my wheel and they are a lot less expensive.

Alternatives for seized engine - VR4
« Result #3 on Jun 7, 2005, 6:21pm »

I am new to this forum. I live in Naperville and my 1994 VR-4 (85,000 miles) has major engine problems. I have had it for about 8 years and love it Driving to work and the check engine light came on (me thinking some sensor needs resetting) but about 15 miles later the engine quit. I did not notice the temperature gauge was high but it did overheat and would not start. Maxsun Mitsu in Aurora (a 3000GT racer had told me that shop was OK) has it apart. First identified a blown water pump, leaking radiator and ruined timing belt. As they working on that they found that the crank bolt has seized and I am probably looking at a new short block, etc. Don't have an official estimate but the guestimate of $8000 has me thinking of alternatives:

1. Fix - stock
2. Fix - with some engine enhancements or rebuild precision that makes it a stronger performer - not going overboard. Perhaps setting the foundation for future mods.
3. Sadly say goodby.

Money is a concern.

My questions:
1. Who would be a good engine builder in Chicago area to talk to about options there?
2. What kind of market would there be for my car if I were to decide not to fix it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Need a trusty Mech for my 3000gt
« Result #4 on May 18, 2005, 1:27pm »

Hey guys,

I'm new to this car,..just bought it about a month and a half ago.. and I'm not familiar with mechanics in Chicago. Anyone know or could recommend a really good mechanic or one that specializes in 3000gts? I hope there's some close by downtown. Is AMS good with handling 3Ks? I know my friend talks so much bout them for his GSX..but I'm not sure about the 3Ks. Just wanted an opinion.

My car : Base model 95. All stock.

Thanks any help is appreciated.

I would deffinatly call them if that is the spacific way they list as a contact method.

now thats SOUND advice!!! good idea! i would...
1. call them.
2. LEAVE a message.
3. Give them a few days to return your call... they do have full time jobs ya know!

;D OK that is all... class dismissed!

this same advice works when trying to get ahold of Sanjay with the exception that you have to replace #3 with "Call him repeatidly untill you get thru or he changes service providers to avoid you!

 WTB 17" rims
« Result #6 on Feb 18, 2005, 12:11pm »

WTB 17" rims for a second set of tires. Nothing too fancy or too beat up. Nothing too expensive. Not too picky, and not in a rush. Email pics if you've got 'em.

Thanks,

Skywalker

I just bought a 97 Honda shadow 600 with 4000 miles on it a few weeks before Christmas. This is the time of year to buy. It was $2400, and in immaculate condition. No extras or anything, but a beautiful cruiser.

Good luck - you gotta get one!

good to hear everyone is still alive and well, and always up for hanging out!! i dont drive the VR much in the winter either, unless there is not a sign of snow anywhere. despite AWD, it still turns into a big sled with those 265s on there. anywhoo, i talked to andy and he said he was thinking about getting a superbowl party put together....sounds good to me.

p.s. hey cam, where do i find the thread where you explain how the hell you got that sweeeeeet rx7??? and what are you gonna do to it? (other than leave us in the dust) ;)
